Aerodynamics and Flow Control
Navatek has significant experience and expertise in the design, development and application of active flow control devices for aerodynamic applications including fixed wing aircraft, rotorcraft, unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) and micro-air vehicles (MAVs). Navatek owns and operates a low-speed, open-circuit, closed test-section wind tunnel in its Rhode Island facility. In addition to this experimental facility, Navatek uses a suite of aerodynamics computational tools including Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) solvers, a 2D Interacted Boundary Layer solver (XFOIL), and an implementation of Blade Element – Momentum (BEM) theory. These resources are used to design and test an active flow control system to improve wind turbine performance.
